Idukki District Congress Committee (DCC) president C.P. Mathew has publicly opposed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's directive to clear natural elephant passages in Chinnakkanal. Mathew demanded the Chief Minister withdraw the District Collector's order, citing panic among local residents. The order followed the death of a tribal farmer killed by a wild tusker. Forest officials had begun dismantling illegal fences, but farmer groups re-erected them, escalating the conflict. Mathew also criticized the CPI(M) over a scheduled hartal.

इडुक्की डिस्ट्रिक्ट कांग्रेस कमेटी (DCC) के अध्यक्ष सी.पी. मैथ्यू ने चिननाकनाल में प्राकृतिक हाथी गलियारों को साफ करने के मुख्यमंत्री पिनरई विजयन के निर्देश का सार्वजनिक रूप से विरोध किया है। मैथ्यू ने मुख्यमंत्री से जिला कलेक्टर के आदेश को वापस लेने की मांग की, स्थानीय निवासियों में दहशत का हवाला देते हुए। यह आदेश एक जंगली हाथी द्वारा मारे गए एक आदिवासी किसान की मौत के बाद आया था। वन अधिकारियों ने अवैध बाड़ को तोड़ना शुरू कर दिया था, लेकिन किसान समूहों ने उन्हें फिर से खड़ा कर दिया, जिससे संघर्ष बढ़ गया। मैथ्यू ने एक निर्धारित हड़ताल को लेकर सीपीआई (एम) की भी आलोचना की।
