New Toad Species Discovered in Northeast India's Mountain Tops

A new species of toad, Duttaphyrnus phawngpui sp. nov., has been described from Phawngpui National Park in Mizoram, India. Researchers found two individuals on the hilltops of this national park, which is located along the border with Myanmar. The species is named after Phawngpui, Mizoram's highest mountain peak. Morphological and DNA analyses confirmed its distinction from previously known species. This discovery highlights the biodiversity of the region, though the species faces threats from habitat loss.
