The Hindu · india

The Supreme Court has criticized the Kerala government for failing to provide details on the welfare measures taken for the State's tallest captive elephant, Uttoly Raman, since its custody was transferred in June. A bench questioned why the court was kept uninformed and why elections caused delays in complying with its orders. The court directed the State to submit the elephant's latest medical report by October 12. It also ordered that the former caretaker, accused of commercial exploitation, be prevented from touching the animal.
