Pune Forest Dept Plans Early Water Replenishment for Animals

Pune forest officials will begin replenishing watering holes for animals in Maval from February, two months earlier than usual, due to below-average rainfall. A trap-camera survey identified 51 species, including leopards and hyenas, at natural water sources, helping officials pinpoint key locations for intervention. The survey recorded 17 mammal and 34 bird species across eight sites over 30 days. These findings will guide water replenishment efforts and wildlife monitoring to ensure sufficient water availability during the summer months.
