Indian Stocks Fall Sharply Amidst Rising Crude Oil Prices and Lender Margin Squeeze
Times of India - Business · business
Indian benchmark indices experienced a significant decline on Monday, with the Sensex dropping 876 points and the Nifty falling 257 points. This downturn was primarily driven by selling pressure in private sector banks and IT stocks. Disappointing quarterly earnings from major private lenders, concerns over shrinking net interest margins, elevated crude oil prices around $107-108 a barrel, and continued foreign investor outflows contributed to the market's weakness. The Nifty PSU Bank index was the only sectoral index to end in positive territory.
