MahaRERA Declines to Rule on MHADA Property Tax Before Home Possession

Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has stated it lacks the jurisdiction to decide if MHADA can levy property tax on homebuyers before possession. This decision came while rejecting a homebuyer's plea for a refund of property tax charged by MHADA for a flat in Tathawade. The homebuyers argued they shouldn't pay tax for a period when the flat was not in their possession. MHADA contended that these charges were disclosed in the offer letter and possession slip signed by the buyers.
