Upper Caste Activists Gherao HP Secretariat Demanding UGC Notification Rollback

Hundreds of upper caste activists, demanding the rollback of a January UGC notification and the establishment of a Swaran Aayog, gheraoed the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat on Thursday. Protesters linked to the Rashtriya Devbhoomi Party attempted to breach the secretariat as their foot march reached Shimla. Police used mild force and water cannons to disperse the demonstrators. Panchayat Minister Anirudh Singh was deputed to hold talks, with a meeting between the chief minister and protest leaders scheduled for Friday.

जनवरी के यूजीसी नोटिफिकेशन को वापस लेने और स्वर्ण आयोग की स्थापना की मांग कर रहे सैकड़ों सवर्ण कार्यकर्ताओं ने गुरुवार को हिमाचल प्रदेश सचिवालय का घेराव किया। राष्ट्रीय देवभूमि पार्टी से जुड़े प्रदर्शनकारियों ने शिमला पहुंचने पर सचिवालय में घुसने की कोशिश की। पुलिस ने प्रदर्शनकारियों को तितर-बितर करने के लिए हल्का बल प्रयोग किया और पानी की बौछारें छोड़ीं। पंचायत मंत्री अनिरुद्ध सिंह को बातचीत के लिए भेजा गया था, और मुख्यमंत्री और प्रदर्शनकारियों के नेताओं के बीच शुक्रवार को एक बैठक निर्धारित है।
