Jaisalmer's Gadisar Lake Faces Drought-Like Crisis, Threatening Tourism
Times of India · environment
Jaisalmer's historic Gadisar Lake is nearing a dry state for the first time since 2002-03 due to deficient monsoon rains and high October temperatures. This situation threatens the crucial winter tourism season, as exposed dry patches diminish the lake's visual appeal and shorten tourist visits. Local businesses, including boat operators and jewellery sellers, are facing significant financial hardship due to declining tourist footfall. The Municipal Council plans to dig four tubewells costing over Rs 60 lakh to replenish the reservoir, though long-term sustainability remains a concern.
