A FIFA study found that over half of the 1,606 participants in the 2026 World Cup received online abuse. Racism constituted 20% of these abusive messages, with threats of violence at 14% and xenophobia at 12%. FIFA's Social Media Protection Service analyzed 17.1 million posts, identifying approximately 240,000 as abusive.
