The CPM state secretary P Shanmugam has alleged that political parties are distributing cash to voters ahead of the bypolls in Tamil Nadu. Villagers reportedly told Left front campaigners that the ruling TVK party is paying more money than other parties. Shanmugam demanded that the Election Commission investigate these claims, describing the villagers' statements as a "confessional statement" on the cash-for-vote culture. He also criticized Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay for his party's alleged involvement, despite earlier promises against vote-buying.
