Hindustan Times · health
An orthopaedic spine surgeon with over 20 years of experience has cautioned that while yoga and Pilates are beneficial, extreme poses can be detrimental to spinal health. Dr. Arjun Dhawale explained that complex exercises like headstands are not recommended for beginners due to the risk of injury. He emphasized that individual capabilities vary, and exercises should be modulated by a trainer, especially if pre-existing conditions are present. General flexibility is encouraged, but extreme routines should be avoided to prevent potential harm to the spine.
