Uttarakhand High Court Relocation Plan Rejected Again Over Forest Land Concerns

A Union Environment Ministry panel has once again rejected the Uttarakhand government's proposal to relocate the High Court from Nainital to Haldwani. The Regional Empowered Committee cited concerns over diverting 30 hectares of reserved forest land and insufficient exploration of non-forest alternatives. The panel also noted shortcomings in project documentation, layout plans, and wildlife protection measures. This marks the second setback for the relocation, following a previous rejection in January 2024.

केंद्रीय पर्यावरण मंत्रालय की एक समिति ने नैनीताल से हल्द्वानी में हाई कोर्ट के स्थानांतरण के उत्तराखंड सरकार के प्रस्ताव को एक बार फिर खारिज कर दिया है। क्षेत्रीय सशक्त समिति ने 30 हेक्टेयर आरक्षित वन भूमि के विचलन और गैर-वन विकल्पों की अपर्याप्त खोज को लेकर चिंता जताई है। समिति ने परियोजना के दस्तावेज़ों, लेआउट योजनाओं और वन्यजीव संरक्षण उपायों में भी कमियां बताईं। यह स्थानांतरण के लिए दूसरा झटका है, इससे पहले जनवरी 2024 में भी इसे खारिज कर दिया गया था।
