The United States is preparing to ban Chinese telecom firms from directly accessing US phone numbers, citing national security concerns and the prevention of scam-related robocalls. The Federal Communications Commission will vote on November 19 on a proposal targeting China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom. This move aims to strengthen defenses against malicious actors and illegal robocallers. The FCC also plans to bar IP-enabled service providers using equipment from companies like Huawei and ZTE, which are deemed national security risks.
