Calcutta HC dismisses Congress plea against BJP candidate

The Calcutta High Court has dismissed a petition filed by the Congress challenging the nomination of BJP candidate Hasirani Rath for the Nandigram assembly by-election. The Congress had alleged discrepancies in Rath's age as stated in her affidavit compared to her 10th-grade passing year. The court, however, ruled that alleged misinformation in an affidavit does not automatically invalidate a nomination, especially as there is no maximum age limit for contesting elections.

कलकत्ता हाई कोर्ट ने नंदीग्राम विधानसभा उपचुनाव के लिए बीजेपी उम्मीदवार हसिरानी रथ के नामांकन को चुनौती देने वाली कांग्रेस की याचिका खारिज कर दी है। कांग्रेस ने रथ की उम्र को लेकर उनके हलफनामे और 10वीं कक्षा पास करने के साल में विसंगतियों का आरोप लगाया था। हालांकि, अदालत ने फैसला सुनाया कि हलफनामे में कथित गलत जानकारी से नामांकन स्वतः अमान्य नहीं हो जाता, खासकर जब चुनाव लड़ने के लिए कोई अधिकतम आयु सीमा नहीं है।
