Cabinet Approves ₹53,428 Crore for Social Assistance Scheme, Revises Disability Pension Norms

The Union Cabinet has approved an outlay of ₹53,428 crore for the continuation of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) for five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The scheme will be renamed 'Pradhan Mantri Samajik Sahayata Yojana'. Monthly assistance for disability pension beneficiaries will be ₹375 for those under 79 and ₹625 for those 80 and above. The benchmark disability requirement has been reduced from 80% to 40%, and age criteria removed, making persons with disabilities eligible from birth.

केंद्रीय कैबिनेट ने 2026-27 से 2030-31 तक पांच साल के लिए राष्ट्रीय सामाजिक सहायता कार्यक्रम (NSAP) को जारी रखने के लिए ₹53,428 करोड़ के आवंटन को मंजूरी दे दी है। इस योजना का नाम बदलकर 'प्रधानमंत्री सामाजिक सहायता योजना' कर दिया जाएगा। दिव्यांग पेंशन लाभार्थियों के लिए मासिक सहायता 79 वर्ष से कम वालों के लिए ₹375 और 80 वर्ष या उससे अधिक वालों के लिए ₹625 होगी। बेंचमार्क दिव्यांगता की आवश्यकता को 80% से घटाकर 40% कर दिया गया है, और आयु मानदंड हटा दिया गया है, जिससे दिव्यांग व्यक्ति जन्म से ही पात्र हो जाएंगे।
