Madras HC Orders Tuticorin District to Close Abandoned Wells and Pits

The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu state to close all abandoned open wells, unused borewells, and quarry pits located along public roads in Tuticorin district within six weeks. This order came in response to a public interest litigation highlighting the severe threat these unprotected sites pose to public safety. The court was prompted by a recent tragic accident where a car fell into an open well, resulting in five fatalities, including a child.
