आईटी मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने घोषणा की है कि भारत का लक्ष्य अक्टूबर 2028 तक अपना घरेलू स्तर पर डिजाइन, निर्मित और ब्रांडेड स्मार्टफोन तैयार करना है। इस पहल का उद्देश्य भारत की भूमिका को वैश्विक इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स आपूर्ति श्रृंखला में केवल असेंबली से आगे बढ़ाना है। मंत्री ने क्षमताओं के विकास में प्रगति पर प्रकाश डाला, जिसमें एक अमेरिकी ऑपरेटर के लिए एक सफल 5G-प्लस मोबाइल फोन डिजाइन भी शामिल है। हालाँकि विनिर्माण मौजूद है, लेकिन भारतीय कंपनियों के लिए विश्व स्तर पर प्रतिस्पर्धा करने के लिए प्रौद्योगिकी और बौद्धिक संपदा का स्वामित्व अगला कदम है।
