Kuki-Zo Council Threatens Stronger Political Measures If UT Demand Ignored

Times of India · politics

The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has warned of significant political actions if its demand for a separate Union Territory with a legislature is not met. These measures include asking elected MLAs to resign from the Manipur government and urging Suspension of Operations (SoO) groups to withdraw cooperation. The council cited ongoing violence from Meitei and Naga communities, alleging selective justice and discrimination by the government. They stated the demand is crucial for survival, security, and dignity, highlighting that over 250 Kuki-Zo people have been killed and 40,000 displaced since May 2023.
