Radio Tags Reveal Giant Green Anacondas' Underwater Hiding Habits

Times of India · science

Researchers in the western Amazon have used radio tags to study the elusive green anaconda. A study in the Journal of Natural History documented how these giant reptiles utilize waterways and surrounding vegetation. Out of 180 observations involving at least 50 snakes in Peru's Madre de Dios region, only 17.7% of tracked locations showed the snakes visibly. This highlights why their tendency to remain concealed makes population estimation challenging for scientists.
