Schokari Sand Racer Snake Bite Causes Swelling and Pain For Nearly Three Months
Times of India · health
A rare bite from a Schokari sand racer snake, Psammophis schokari, resulted in mild but persistent swelling and pain for a 59-year-old man, lasting nearly three months. This incident, described in a 2020 study, is the first reported bite by this specific species. The snake, found in Africa and parts of the Middle East and Asia, possesses low-pressure venom glands and specialized teeth. While bites from Psammophis snakes are not uncommon, detailed medical reports are scarce, with most previous cases showing only mild effects.
