The Gauhati High Court has directed the governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to submit a response regarding steps taken to remove encroachments from reserve forests along their interstate border. The court specifically asked for details on actions to clear Behali and Singlijan Reserved Forests in Biswanath district, which face allegations of ongoing deforestation and illegal construction. A Public Interest Litigation highlighted concerns over thousands of hectares of forest land allegedly encroached upon, with villages and permanent structures reportedly established.
