Retired Archaeology Official Duped of ₹34 Lakh in Digital Arrest Scam

A 73-year-old retired archaeology official in Lucknow was defrauded of Rs 34 lakh by cybercriminals posing as Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officers. The victim, Keshav Murari Gupta, received a call claiming a bank account in his name was financing terrorism. He was subjected to a 'digital arrest' and pressured to break fixed deposits. Believing the imposters, Gupta transferred Rs 34 lakh for 'verification', only realizing he was cheated when the money was not returned. Police are investigating and attempting to freeze the transferred funds.

लखनऊ में 73 वर्षीय रिटायर्ड पुरातत्व अधिकारी से साइबर अपराधियों ने एंटी-टेररिज्म स्क्वाड (ATS) के अफसरों का जाली रूप धारण कर 34 लाख रुपये की ठगी की। पीड़ित केशव मुरारी गुप्ता को एक फोन आया जिसमें दावा किया गया कि उनके नाम पर एक बैंक खाता आतंकवाद को फंड कर रहा है। उन्हें 'डिजिटल गिरफ्तारी' के अधीन किया गया और फिक्स्ड डिपॉजिट तोड़ने के लिए दबाव डाला गया। धोखेबाजों पर विश्वास करते हुए, गुप्ता ने 'सत्यापन' के लिए 34 लाख रुपये ट्रांसफर कर दिए, लेकिन जब पैसा वापस नहीं आया तो उन्हें एहसास हुआ कि उनके साथ धोखा हुआ है। पुलिस जांच कर रही है और ट्रांसफर किए गए फंड को फ्रीज करने की कोशिश कर रही है।
