Supreme Court Expects Early Ruling on TMC Rebels

The Supreme Court on Wednesday urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to expedite a decision on the disqualification plea against 20 rebel TMC MPs. While acknowledging it cannot direct the Speaker, the bench emphasized the need for an "expeditious resolution" given the seriousness of the matter. Senior advocate Kalyan Banerjee highlighted the MPs' failure to respond. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated notices were issued, but declined to commit to a timeline for the Speaker's decision.
