The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has requested an action taken report from the Khurda district administration and police regarding a Ganesh Puja immersion procession in Jatni. High-decibel DJ sound systems allegedly caused vibrations that led to a building slab collapsing, resulting in one death. Acting on a complaint, the NHRC noted potential human rights violations and negligence by authorities. The commission has directed the district magistrate and superintendent of police to submit a detailed report within two weeks, addressing concerns over the right to life.
