Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham has initiated an open competition for the team's starting kicker position following Trey Butkowski's struggles. Butkowski missed four of his six field goal attempts across two recent games, including two against Rutgers and two against Indiana. Whittingham confirmed that all kickers will compete in practice this week, with the best performer earning the starting role against Michigan State on November 7. This decision puts Butkowski's starting job at risk after his inconsistent performance.
