Arunachal Pradesh: Three Districts Observe Shutdown Over Mega Dam Project

A youth organisation has called for a shutdown across three districts in Arunachal Pradesh today to protest the proposed 11,200MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. SAAYA is demanding the release of over 40 protesters arrested following violence on October 23. They are also opposing the deployment of 30 CAPF companies in the region. The project threatens to submerge 27 villages, raising fears of displacement and sparking renewed resistance to protect the Siang river, which is central to the Adi community's identity.

अरुणाचल प्रदेश के तीन जिलों में आज एक युवा संगठन ने प्रस्तावित 11,200 मेगावाट सियांग अपर मल्टीपर्पज प्रोजेक्ट के विरोध में बंद बुलाया है। SAAYA 23 अक्टूबर को हुई हिंसा के बाद गिरफ्तार किए गए 40 से अधिक प्रदर्शनकारियों की रिहाई की मांग कर रहा है। वे इस क्षेत्र में 30 CAPF कंपनियों की तैनाती का भी विरोध कर रहे हैं। इस प्रोजेक्ट से 27 गांव डूबने का खतरा है, जिससे विस्थापन का डर बढ़ गया है और सियांग नदी को बचाने के लिए नया विरोध शुरू हो गया है, जो आदि समुदाय की पहचान के लिए केंद्रीय है।
