Developers Say High Costs and Taxes Make Affordable Housing Difficult

News18 Hindi · india

Real estate industry body CREDAI states that rising construction costs and taxes are making it challenging to build affordable homes. CREDAI President Shekhar Patel highlighted that the current definition of affordable housing, capped at ₹45 lakh, is no longer sufficient due to inflation. Developers face significant tax burdens, ranging from 30-50% of the sale price, on land, construction, and sales. The industry is urging the government to revise the definition of affordable housing, suggesting area-based limits instead of monetary caps.
