Insurers Propose 10% Co-payment on Health Policies From 2027
Times of India · business
Non-life insurers are considering a proposal for policyholders to pay 10% of retail health claims, with a cap of Rs 5 lakh per claim. This move aims to lower annual premiums for customers. The proposal, under discussion by the General Insurance Council, would also introduce common hospital empanelment and dispute resolution mechanisms. It applies to retail indemnity products and excludes outpatient claims. Insurers believe this will curb overbilling and provider-induced demand by making patients more price-sensitive.
