The Supreme Court has ruled that individuals born Hindu who convert to Islam or another non-Hindu faith are not eligible for reservation benefits. A bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Shree Chandrashekhar stated that such converts cannot claim affirmative action under Article 16(4) of the Constitution based on their pre-conversion social backwardness. This decision stems from a case involving a man born to Hindu parents in Tamil Nadu who converted to Islam in 2015.
