Chaprala Wildlife Sanctuary in Gadchiroli is gaining recognition as a significant biodiversity hotspot. Recent sightings of a Malabar pied hornbill and smooth-coated otters highlight the area's ecological richness. The Malabar pied hornbill, dependent on mature trees, was recorded on Monday, underscoring the importance of the sanctuary's riverine forests. Smooth-coated otters, indicators of riverine health, have also been spotted along its river stretches. These discoveries follow the rediscovery of the rare striated grassbird, documented for the first time in over a century.
