Centre Denies Foreign Influence on UPI Charges

The Union Finance Ministry has refuted claims of foreign influence on UPI transaction charges, stating India's policy decisions are made independently. The ministry clarified that the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) is not a tax collected by the government but supports the UPI ecosystem's operation and expansion. MDR will apply to person-to-merchant UPI payments above Rs 2,000 from October 15, paid by merchants, not consumers.

वित्त मंत्रालय ने UPI ट्रांज़ैक्शन चार्ज पर विदेशी प्रभाव की बातों को ख़ारिज कर दिया है। उन्होंने कहा कि भारत अपने फैसले खुद लेता है। मंत्रालय ने साफ़ किया कि Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) कोई टैक्स नहीं है, बल्कि यह UPI सिस्टम को चलाने और बढ़ाने में मदद करता है। 15 अक्टूबर से 2000 रुपये से ज़्यादा के UPI पेमेंट पर मर्चेंट को MDR देना होगा, ग्राहकों को नहीं।
