Samsung, SK Hynix Reject $18.7 Billion Power Payment

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have rejected a proposal from South Korea's state-run Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) for an upfront payment of $18.7 billion to support electricity infrastructure. The chipmakers cited internal reviews and questioned the necessity of such a large advance payment due to uncertainty in long-term semiconductor demand. KEPCO sought the funds for planned semiconductor mega clusters requiring significant new electricity supplies and infrastructure.
