Dried luffa gourds, commonly known as torai in India, are being processed into natural loofah sponges and scrubbers for export. After the gourd matures and dries, its fibrous inner structure is extracted, cleaned, and processed into various products. These include bath sponges, kitchen scrubbers, mats, and decorative items. Countries like Egypt and China are involved in the production and export of these loofah products. Reports indicate significant export shipments from China alone, with products selling for $1 to $7 internationally, creating a profitable niche from an agricultural byproduct.
