Mandsaur Women Veil Themselves Before Ravana Idol, Revered as Son-in-Law
Aaj Tak · spirituality
In Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, Ravana is worshipped as a son-in-law, with local women observing the tradition of veiling themselves before his statue. This unique practice stems from the belief that Mandodari, Ravana's wife, had her maternal home in Mandsaur. A 35-foot-tall statue, approximately 200 years old, stands in the city, featuring a distinctive donkey's head atop Ravana's crown. This is interpreted as a symbol of his lost wisdom and judgment, particularly concerning the abduction of Sita.
