The Indian Navy's strength has increased with the commissioning of the multi-purpose vessel INS Sumarthak. Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan commissioned the ship in Karwar, Karnataka. Built by L&T under the 'Make in India' initiative, it is the country's first indigenous multi-purpose vessel (MPV). The MPV is designed for various roles including maritime surveillance, low-intensity operations, and disaster relief. It can also act as a mothership for drones and support limited hospital functions.
