Telangana Agriculture Minister Orders Drought Impact Assessment Using Multiple Indicators

The Hindu · india

Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has directed officials to prepare proposals for drought-affected mandals, in coordination with the Revenue Department. This directive comes after the Southwest Monsoon concluded with a 17% rainfall deficit across the state. The minister emphasized using multiple indicators like rainfall, cultivated area, soil moisture, and reservoir levels to estimate drought severity. He also urged the Centre to procure 100% of MSP-notified crops to support farmers facing El Nino conditions. The state has identified 18 out of 33 districts as having deficient rainfall.
