Mars's Giant Volcano Forms 1,800km Cloud Daily

Times of India · science

A massive 1,800-kilometre cloud, nearly twice the length of the UK, forms daily near Mars's Arsia Mons volcano during its spring and summer. Scientists now suggest this Arsia Mons Elongated Cloud may form through a process called homogeneous ice nucleation, where water vapour directly turns into ice without needing dust particles. Researchers used data from the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft and a meteorological model to propose this explanation. This phenomenon occurs as moist air rapidly rises and cools over the giant volcano, creating unique atmospheric conditions.
