Loneliness Linked to Distress, Excessive Series Watching in Parents of Emigrated Children

A NIMHANS study found that loneliness among parents whose adult children have emigrated is associated with higher psychological distress and difficulties in regulating emotions. The exploratory study examined 64 parents aged 45-65, with women reporting significantly higher loneliness and distress than men. Loneliness was also linked to problematic series watching, which can interfere with daily functioning and increase the risk of non-communicable diseases. Researchers caution that the study identified associations, not causation, highlighting the emotional challenges faced by parents adjusting to an 'empty nest'.
