A major study of almost 700 species has uncovered the evolutionary history of Neogastropoda, a varied group of marine snails. The research offers new support for their single origin and identifies four previously unknown families. Scientists suggest that the rise of shell-crushing predators may have spurred this significant evolutionary expansion in marine snails during the early Cenozoic era, leading to their diversification.
