DGFT Cancels 15 Scrap Inspection Agencies

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has withdrawn recognition from 15 pre-shipment inspection agencies (PSIAs) due to irregularities in issuing certificates. This action has caused significant disruptions for metal scrap importers, leading to difficulties in clearing consignments, penalties, and increased inspection costs. Importers face challenges as certificates from delisted agencies are now invalid for customs clearance. The DGFT stated that additional agencies have been appointed to maintain inspection capacity and prevent trade disruptions, but importers are still grappling with the new certification regime's complexities.
