Tamil Nadu Identifies 20 Sites for Housing Reconstruction; Urges Dilapidated Tenement Residents to Vacate

The Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) has identified 20 sites across the state for the reconstruction of ageing tenements during 2026-27. The board plans to build new housing units at the same locations after demolishing existing structures, allowing residents to return. Additionally, TNUHDB has appealed to residents of 23 dilapidated tenements to temporarily vacate their homes due to the ongoing monsoon. Two new greenfield resettlement sites are also planned for Perambur and Madurantakam, each expected to house over 450 units.

तमिलनाडु अर्बन हैबिटेट डेवलपमेंट बोर्ड (TNUHDB) ने 2026-27 में पुराने टेनमेंट्स के पुनर्निर्माण के लिए राज्य भर में 20 साइटें चुनी हैं। बोर्ड मौजूदा ढाँचों को गिराने के बाद उन्हीं जगहों पर नए घर बनाने की योजना बना रहा है, ताकि निवासी वापस लौट सकें। इसके अलावा, TNUHDB ने 23 जर्जर टेनमेंट्स के निवासियों से मानसून के कारण अस्थायी रूप से अपने घर खाली करने की अपील की है। पेराम्बुर और मदुरान्तकम के लिए दो नई ग्रीनफील्ड पुनर्वास साइटें भी प्रस्तावित हैं, जिनमें से प्रत्येक में 450 से अधिक यूनिट्स होने की उम्मीद है।
