Madhya Pradesh Village Worships Ravan, Refuses To Burn Effigy On Dussehra

News18 Hindi · india

In Rawan village, Vidisha district, Madhya Pradesh, Dussehra is celebrated differently. Instead of burning Ravan effigies, villagers worship him as 'Ravan Baba', their village deity. They believe burning him is inauspicious and consider him a divine figure. A 12-foot idol of Ravan Baba in a resting posture is central to their worship. No auspicious event, from weddings to purchasing new vehicles, begins without his invocation and offering the first wedding invitation card to him. The village hosts large gatherings for prayers and feasts on Dussehra.
