Indonesia's Anak Krakatau volcano has erupted, leading to the formation of two new islands. These islands, potentially the first in nearly a century within the caldera of the 1883 Krakatoa eruption, appeared after a 25-hour eruption in early September. Located hundreds of meters off opposite sides of the volcano, their dimensions and elevation are still being verified by Indonesia's Geological Agency. The agency believes fluid magma reached the surface through an elongated opening, forming these offshore mounds.
