Grenada Artificial Reef Project Successfully Supports Marine Life Recovery
Times of India · environment
Launched in 2013, the Grenada Artificial Reef Project has installed 100 cinder-block pyramids on the Caribbean seabed to aid natural reef recovery. The project, a collaboration with the Clean Reefs Organization, has become home to over 30 fish species and 15 kinds of coral. Research published in January 2024 indicates that these artificial structures attract organisms found on natural reefs, with a higher proportion of beneficial coralline algae present. This initiative offers a cost-effective method to create alternative habitats and support marine ecosystems facing decline.
