Kochi Corporation to Survey Public Taps To Curb Water Bills

The Hindu · india

The Kochi Corporation will conduct a survey to identify unused and illegally installed public taps, and geo-tag and meter those in use. This decision follows criticism over the financial drain caused by 'superfluous' taps, which lead to monthly payments of nearly ₹1 crore based on 5,444 public taps. The Corporation aims to reduce water charges by retaining taps only where genuinely required. Officials will provide the Kerala Water Authority with the actual number of functional taps needed for metered billing.
