India is enhancing its shipbuilding industry through a comprehensive ecosystem approach, combining demand aggregation, infrastructure, financing, and domestic ownership incentives. Former shipping secretary T K Ramachandran highlighted that legislative reforms and a ₹70,000-crore package last year marked a significant turning point. The strategy addresses both demand and supply challenges, aiming to boost India's global shipbuilding ranking. Measures include predictable orders, financing support via the Maritime Development Fund, and interest incentives, alongside granting infrastructure status to shipping for better loan terms.
