Kerala Farmer Grows Potatoes in 5-Foot Tower Using Dry Leaves
The Better India · lifestyle
A farmer in Wayanad, Kerala, has developed an innovative method to grow potatoes and other vegetables using dry leaves and organic waste. C V Varghese constructs a five-foot mesh tower, layering it with dry leaves, cow dung, goat dung, neem cake, and soil. A perforated PVC pipe in the center ensures even water distribution throughout the tower. This technique allows for vertical farming in limited spaces, making it ideal for home gardeners with terraces or backyards. Varghese's method efficiently utilizes fallen leaves, transforming them into a valuable resource for cultivation.
