Preschoolers Who Blink More May Have Special Mental Ability, Study Finds
TOI - Lifestyle · lifestyle
A new study suggests a surprising link between how often preschoolers blink and their cognitive flexibility. Researchers found that children who blinked more frequently performed better on tasks requiring them to switch between different sorting rules. This ability to adapt thinking when situations change is known as cognitive flexibility. The study, involving 113 Japanese children, also noted a connection between blink rate and brain activity in areas crucial for executive function. While the association is modest, it points to an unexpected indicator of developing mental agility in young children.
