Indian Shipyards Double Delivery Pipeline But Global Share Remains Small
The Hindu - Business · business
Indian shipyards have doubled their delivery pipeline, with orders scheduled for 2026-2030 nearly twice the tonnage delivered from 2021-2025. Despite this growth, India's shipyards currently hold only 0.5% of the global order book, totaling 1.1 million compensated gross tonnage (CGT) as of September 1, 2026. This places India 12th globally, significantly behind China, which dominates with 64% of the world's shipbuilding orders. The government's ₹69,725-crore package aims to elevate India into the top shipbuilding nations by 2047.
