At least 26 people have been killed and 82 injured in intercommunal fighting in the disputed Abyei region bordering Sudan and South Sudan. The violence erupted following the separate killings of a Ngok Dinka man and a Misseriya man, escalating tensions between the rival communities. The UN has reinforced its security presence and urged community leaders to pursue dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
